The Nuffield Department of Surgery is the Academic Department of Surgery of the University of Oxford. It also acts as the academic focus for other Surgical Specialties in Oxford. Over 70 staff work in the Nuffield Department of Surgery with an annual budget of £2.5million.

The primary research focus of the Department is in immunology, tolerance and transplantation biology. Other long running research programmes include the islet isolation and transplantation, cardiovascular, interventionist radiology and functional neurosurgical Groups.

Research is sponsored by a broad range of charities and public and corporate bodies.
